The shock and horror have left me numb. Do I laugh? Do I cry? Do I shake my fist at the sky? Should I be angry or should I be sad? This is bad but not the worst event I’ve had.
I guess I’ll sit here stunned, making up cheesy poems, and drowning my sorrows in my Bigelow Lemon Ginger tea with Probiotics. (It smells like icing and has a hint of some flavor I can’t define but is probably lemon, or ginger, or the probiotics.)
How could this happen … again?
Yes, again. Like lots and lots of agains since I started blogging in 2009. I’ve always had backups for the backups of my client’s content but mine? Ha. It’s like the cobbler whose children need shoes, the mechanic whose personal cars need CPR, and the lawyer who dies without a Will.
Check this out:
- My beloved computer popped the blue screen of death. (Wasn’t recoverable.)
- An external hard drive went down and took my backups.
- An online hard drive went out of business.
- I forgot to updated my billing info with Carbonite and went afk for a few weeks.
I usually find whatever I’m looking for when I’m not looking for it so I wouldn’t bet that I won’t (or will) find a backup somewhere.
Maybe it’s also the stress of having 24 hours to start over in a new community and temporarily sharing a system with my son who is also a power user. Except his power use is different from mine so I decided to make space for him by moving some of my files. Haha. Moving.
Note to Self: Definitely need to research gaming computers.
It would probably be worse if I’d actively promoted this blog but I never really put much effort into marketing it. I’ve always just spoken my mind and left it at that. Still, it’s a bit embarrassing to have social media accounts linking to content that’s just not here
anymore right now.
If there’s a moral to this story it’s get a good host the first time so you won’t have to host hop, always have 3 backups (external hard drive, online drive or automated backup service, and a DVD or Lemon Ginger tea with Probiotics. We all get caught up in a moment and forget what we were saying now and then, right?
Incidentally, I did wind up finding my last backup – from January 2017! – right before I hit the Publish button on this post. I still lost a few posts but it’s much better than losing 2 whole years, amirite?
Alrighty, well, it’s time for me to walk my walk and go back my stuff up now …
Wishing you much peace, happiness, and success,
Pearl 'Penny' Lane-Soliz
